Bill Shepherd was born and raised in Casper, Wyoming and from an early age he was fascinated by the Native American artifacts in the homes of many of his ranching friends. Even as a child Bill was amazed at how cultures with such limited means could make such enduringly beautiful objects.
After graduating from the Univ. of Wyo. with a Masters of Fine Arts degree Shepherd moved to Santa Fe, NM where he began his career as an artist. Today his paintings can be found in collections throughout the United States, Mexico, Europe and India and he exhibited in the Prix de West in Oklahoma City in 2012.
The painting Rio Grande Blanket is a continuation of his interest in shadows and light. The objects were selected for their beautiful designs, surfaces and history. Although the standing plate and bowl are from different tribes, they share a similar clarity and brilliance of design.
