Vehicle Preparation
The Bell Lexus Copperstate team wants the rally experience to be safe and trouble free. We will do everything we can to provide a great route, wonderful food and beautiful hotels. Properly vehicle preparation will be the responsibility of the rally participants.
All cars will be required to undergo a vehicle safety inspection prior to arrival for registration. A certified mechanic is required to inspect your vehicle and sign-off that it is in rally ready condition. Any car that is not inspected and/or cannot provide a signed Copperstate Vehicle Safety Check List will not be able to complete registration. This requirement will help insure the safety and well being of all participants. Click here to download a copy of the Vehicle Safety Check List.
A couple key points need to be emphasized:
- Drive that car. Our participants occasionally bring cars fresh out of a spectacular restoration only to have them fail on the first day due to something that would have been discovered in the course of a good long shake down cruise. Other cars that suffer in this way are cars that are only driven once or twice a year. We require 200 miles prior to the event.
- Tires. More cars are sidelined by bad tires than anything. Please pay particular attention to our tire information. Click here for additional tire information.
- Fuel systems. Fuel system issues will sideline our participants almost as much as tire issues. This includes old, contaminated fuel, clogged filters, defective fuel pumps, etc... Each year a car goes home prematurely due to fuel system issues.
- Be prepared for the unexpected. It can conceivably be 95 one day and snow the next. It’s happened. Air cleaners will provide some protection to your engine’s internal parts in the case of a freak dust storm – we learned this the hard way.
In spite of the very best preparation, things do go wrong. Mechanical assistance crews are available to all entrants from the start of the rally to the finish. Our superb experienced staff has an incredible track record of keeping vintage cars “on the road.”
Having some key spares can mean the difference between a quick fix and ride on a AAA tow truck.
